The profits will most likely outweigh the resource cost. If you're in a dark red area where steel is in high demand it shouldn't be a problem at all to simply put down a steel factory and buy the raw resources. Try to get an exceptional (yellow/gold) or exotic (orange) level trading system because from exceptional and up it allows you to see the demand of goods on the galaxy map.

You can do that with a system upgrade called "trading system", you might have seen it already it's an icon of coins. The most important thing though is that you first check what kind of resource is in demand. You don't need to produce everything from raw resources to max tier. I want to add to the already pretty helpful comments that you can start a simple tier 1 or maybe a tier 2 factory and simply let the station buy supplies to start producing. This is mostly used for station building since you can just make a new ship yourself whenever you want by hopping into your drone and hitting the "Found Ship" button. I've only ever used a shipyard to make the smallest possible ship/station founder. I think the only benefit is that you can place the shipyard wherever you want (like in your home sector) so you don't have to jump from where the shipyard is to your desired sector. Obviously single player, the game doesn't run if you aren't logged in.Ī shipyard is just a station like any other (and it is built the same as any station). You can still take shield damage, but not hp/hull damage.

I believe the default options for the server files set offline invincibility after 5 minutes, meaning, 5 minutes after you log out, everything you own is invincible. However, you can do all the trading yourself without needing to build stations. For making money, especially passive income, stations are key. Stations aren't important until you want to produce your own goods/services. I guess these all center back on the same central point, how heavily should I be investing in a home base with all of the amenities, or do we pretty much leave stuff floating and hope its still there when we get back? Anything like that here, or is it a case of making damned sure your defenses are as high as they can be and hoping for the best?Ĭan we make our own shipyards? I haven't seen anything indicating we can, but are the NPC faction shipyards the only ones, or can we set up our own to build ships out of our own raw material without having to pay fees to NPCs? Anything you wanted to keep on a multiplayer server you made sure to dock to your home station in case griefers showed up, otherwise even if it was faction locked so it couldn't be stolen you still risked coming back to find wreckage. Offline defense? Starmade had your home station being invincible, anything docked to it was invincible, it was basically a safe harbor. Avorion does away with this and lets you just make stuff as needed, and I see factories can be put on ships so I'm guessing central repositories aren't as big of a deal? Or should I be scouting for a big asteroid to claim ASAP to start setting up shop? In Starmade, you needed factories to make everything, and factories could only be placed on planets or stations. How important are stations? I don't mean for just producing trade goods, I mean as a home base. Got a few questions I haven't found ready answers for yet. Okay, so coming over from Starmade, and have been watching tutorials on different aspects to get up to speed on Avorion.
